Annabelle the cow is one of our many animal friends who lives at the Lewis Oliver Farm, a small sanctuary located in Northport, NY where we volunteer much of our time caring for her and the rest of the farm's hooved, feathered, and furry residents.
Annabelle is a sweet and gentle giant who enjoys back-rubs, the feel of the earth beneath her feet, the sun upon her face, and knowing her only worry in this world is what time her next meal will arrive. And of course, above all else, Annabelle enjoys spending time with her best friend and partner in crime, Big the goat. Together they spend their days grazing, playing, and lazily taking afternoon naps in the comfort of each other's company.
We consider ourselves very fortunate to have this unique and amazing opportunity to spend time getting to know these beautiful creatures for who and what they are; and that is, intelligent, emotionally complex animals who, like our own dogs and cats at home, respond in kind to love and kindness.
Like all farmed animals including those whose faces we never see, and whose lives and suffering we give little thought to, Annabelle and her friends are sentient beings worthy of our compassion. Yet sadly, particularly in today's cruelly devised factory farming system, millions upon millions of animals are forced to endure short, miserable lives punctuated with immense pain and suffering.
It is hard, if not impossible, for us to imagine Annabelle or any of the animals we love and care for to be treated in the way the overwhelming majority of animals just like them are.
IT IS OUR WISH THAT ANIMALS EVERYWHERE CAN LIVE A LIFE FREE FROM HARM JUST AS ANNABELLE AND HER FRIENDS DO.
And that as more and more cruelty-free alternatives become available, people will come to discover that compassion and the opportunity to enjoy delicious-tasting food need never be mutually exclusive. Please join us on our journey as we strive to make this wish come true, one ice cream cake at a time.
